An Important Message From Kevin

Hello all and thank you very much for the support and interest in my campaign for the Clallam County Director of Community Development. Your kind words and encouragement were much appreciated.

As I am not going forward in the election I would like ALL to please support Bruce Emery as the best candidate for the position.

I have had an opportunity to speak with him at length and have every confidence in his abilities to do the job.   Folks, he far exceeds his opponent in knowledge and ability and that is important. As I have said repeatedly this is an election not a popularity contest! As a long time builder who has had to deal with the different Directors in the past I know first hand that we need someone who has extensive knowledge of the industry not just “management” experience.

In the next week we will be shutting down all of our presence in social media including the website, Facebook and campaign e mail. To my friends please keep in touch through my regular e mail and Facebook page.

I look forward to riding off into the sunset and retirement enjoying our new home!

Cheers to all!

Kevin

Balance
Working together to achieve a community environment that embraces the rural culture we enjoy while providing opportunities for safe affordable attainable housing for all while not diminishing our rural charm.

Respect
Our community is rich in peoples of all natures and callings.  We are diverse yet we are together as a community.  As your DCD I will embrace our cultures and work to meet the needs of our community to the best of my abilities.

Community Partnership
Our Future depends on a robust community partnership that involves all of our community members as we review and amend - where necessary - our comprehensive plan as required by the GMA.

What is the office of the Director
of Community Development?

The position of Director of Community Development is an elected position that administers, enforces and advises the County Commissioners on all laws, except health, with respect to the Environment, Natural Resources, and Land and Shoreline Development, including, but not limited to, zoning, land divisions, environmental policy, building and fire codes, forest management, mining, agriculture, watershed planning and floodplains.

The Director manages a current budget of approximately 2.8 million dollars and oversees a staff of 23 fulltime employees.

As a candidate for the DCD I will demonstrate that I have the background and leadership experience to successfully work with our Commissioners, Our Sheriff, The Prosecuting Attorney, The Department of Health and all other entities that work tirelessly to make our community a better place to live.

I believe that we need to find Balance, Respect, and Community Partnership to make our community even better than it already is.

Balance Is all of us working together to achieve a community environment that embraces the rural culture we enjoy while providing opportunities for safe affordable attainable housing for all while not affecting that rural charm.

Respect Our community is rich in peoples of all natures and callings. We are diverse yet we are together as a community. As your DCD I will embrace our cultures and work to meet the needs of our community to the best of my abilities.

Community Partnership Our Future depends on a robust community partnership that involves all of our community members as we review and amend (if necessary) the comprehensive plan (as required by the Growth Management Act {GMA}). I have worked with many of our community leaders and members when we, our community, started the Built Green of Clallam County Program. I will look forward to the same energy and input to set our future.

Our community member’s quality of life is being adversely impacted by the plethora of transient encampments, squatting and squalor that are plaguing Clallam County. With my years of experience in law enforcement and supporting code enforcement from the side of a deputy sheriff I have the ability to build a code enforcement team that will work together with all of our other county agencies. We can adjudicate those that offend. We have in place now a system that represents a balanced approach to achieve compliance and for those that do not comply, we have the tools to gain compliance through legal action. We need to clean up our county, we need to make it safe for all. Join me to make our future brighter and safer!
